SOLIDWORKS Installation

Students at Louisiana Tech University can download and install SOLIDWORKS on their laptops and use it for educational purposes. This is an academic license of the SOLIDWORKS software program and is provided by Louisiana Tech University for currently enrolled students, faculty, and research assistants. This software must only be installed on a computer owned by the student can cannot be installed for professional activities or commercial use. Installation information should not be forwarded or shared with anyone.

Before installing SOLIDWORKS:

  1. Check your system requirements.
    1. Windows 8 or higher
    2. Mac Computers and Chromebooks are incompatible, and the most recent partition programs have not been successful. The only other option you have is to use the Amazon AppStream (http://appstream.latech.edu)
    3. 64-bit system
      1. Go to START > File Explorer
      2. Right-click on “My Computer” or “This PC” > Properties > look for system type
  2. Check that Windows is updated.
    1. Start > Search Bar > Windows Update > Check for Updates
  3. Check that you are connected to LA Tech internet (WPA2)
    1. If you are attempting to connect via ANY other connection, you will need to install and use the VPN provided by the Tech Helpdesk: https://helpdesk.latech.edu/kb/vpn/vpn-facstaff/how-to-connect-to-the-vpn/
  4. If you run into issues during installation, temporarily turn off your firewall and anti-virus

Installation Process:

  1. Go to website: http://www.solidworks.com/sek
    1. Enter your first and last name
    2. Enter your Tech email address (aaa000@latech.edu)
    3. On “I already have a Serial Number that starts with 9020,” click “Yes” (don’t change anything in the gray box)
    4. Select Version 2024
    5. Select the appropriate role
    6. Click “Request Download” (button will be gray)
    7. Click “Accept Agreement & Continue”
    8. Click “Download” (in blue in the first section)
  2. Once the download is done, allow the program permission to write to your computer (MUST HAVE ADMIN ACCESS ON YOUR COMPUTER TO DO THIS)
    1. Unzip the files (it’s best to allow the program to unzip to the default folder). Click “OK”
  3. SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager window will open
    1. It may tell you it needs you to restart your computer. Select “OK” or “Continue” to keep going without restarting
    2. Select “Individual Installation”. Click “Next”
      1. NOTE: If at any time is says there is a new Service Pack available, select the older one
    3. In the line for “3D Design,” enter the following serial number:
      1. 9710 0069 6102 6548 GFV6 JK78
      2. You don’t have to select any others; this will install the full software suite
    4. Click “Next”
    5. In the top box that says “Products,” click “Change”
      1. Uncheck the box next to “SOLIDWORKS Electrical”
      2. Click “Back to Summary”
    6. If it says anything about a toolbox error, click the “Change” button and select use the same tool box. Click “Back to Summary”
    7. If there are not any error messages, check “I accept the terms of the SOLIDWORKS License Agreement” and click “Download and Install”
    8. IN the popup window, type in the port server: 25734@coes-lic.latech.edu
      1. Click “OK”
      2. If after the window does not pup up, you’ll need to add the license port after installation using the License Manager.
    9. Download/installation should begin; it will likely take between 60-90 minutes, depending on your computer’s speed, the quality of internet connection, or whether you have restarted your computer lately
  4. When installation is complete, uncheck “Show me what’s new” and check “No, thank you”. Click “Finish”
  5. Restart your computer
    1. Open SOLIDWORKS 2024 (it should have put a shortcut on your desktop) and make sure you don’t have any errors or issues

 

License Server Problem?

If you click on the SOLIDWORKS app and receive an error about the license server being unavailable or invalid:

  • Check the Server Port address:
    • Search on your computer for “License Manager” (also may be SolidNetWork License Manager)
    • Click on “server List”
    • If anything is in the box, select it and click “Remove”
    • Click “Add” and enter EXACTLY as follows: 25734@coes-lic.latech.edu
    • Click “OK”
    • Close the License Manager and attempt to open SOLIDWORKS
  • If the server port address in correct and you still get this message, you may be trying to access the program using an internet connection other than on-campus internet LaTechWPA2
