Louisiana Tech COES

First Year Engineering

Louisiana Tech’s first-year engineering program provides an immersive, project-focused experience for over 700 students each year. Our six semester hour course sequence, called “Living with the Lab”, boosts experiential learning through student ownership of the “lab.” Students are provided with a robotics kit along with tools, software and supplies to provide a platform for laboratory and design projects. Student ownership of the lab expands the scope and complexity of projects that can be undertaken with large groups and fosters the development of knowledge, skills and confidence that lead to innovation

COES Student Life

Cyber Storm, a daylong hackfest designed and implemented by the Computer Science and Cyber Engineering programs at the University, has been held every year since 2010. During the event, student teams compete to see who can earn the most points by hacking into other teams’ networks while defending their own, giving them essential experience in the cybersecurity field. The Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Science (COES) hosts Spring Release 2021 on the lawn of the Integrated Engineering and Science Building on Thursday, April 15. Among the festivities there was delicious boiled crawfish, karaoke, a pie-in-the-face contest, and tournaments in ping pong and cornhole. During the Spring Quarter of each year, COES faculty select outstanding juniors and seniors, and students vote on their favorite faculty members. The annual College of Applied and Natural Sciences Research Symposium and ANS Day is held April 14, 2022, in the Student Center. Faculty and students who have received ANS Research Mini-Grant funding report on the progress of their funded project at this symposium. The inaugural Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Science (COES) Design and Research Conference was held May 5 and 6, 2022. The conference combined the College’s Freshman Design Expo, Living with Cyber Expo, and Senior Projects Conference into a single two-day event, filled with exhibits and presentations by our first-year engineering and computer science students and seniors from all fourteen COES majors. Eco-Car

The ECO Car Club focuses on designing, building, and racing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles. This hands-on project allows students to apply their engineering skills in a real-world context, working on various aspects of vehicle design, including powertrain, aerodynamics, and energy management. The club participates in competitions and showcases its vehicles to demonstrate advancements in eco-friendly automotive technology.
